Why Children's Rights Matter in AI: A Resource for Professionals
Developed by Children’s Parliament, with children aged 8-12 across Scotland, in partnership with Scottish AI Alliance & The Alan Turing Institute.
What is this?
This resource contains 5 x eLearning modules exploring the importance of children’s human rights in AI. Each section can be accessed by selecting a module below, completing it, and progressing to the next one.
Click-through each module to explore what children think about AI, why it matters, and how you can help. You may want to have a notebook available to jot down some thoughts or answers.
Upon completion, you can enter your details via Form in the final module, and we will be in touch with a certificate. If you’d like to talk to us about the resource, contact hello@ScottishAI.com
Who should get involved?
If you work in the AI, digital and data space - this is for you.
This resource is aimed at giving adults an introduction to children’s human rights in an AI context, and how to best ensure that your work in developing, deploying or making decisions around AI technologies can respect and protect children’s rights.
If you would like to ensure that your work protects and celebrates children’s human rights, this will help you get started.
Why should I get involved?
You should get involved because the growing role of AI technologies in children's lives has profound implications for their rights, wellbeing, and future. As an adult working in AI, digital and data space, your decisions on design, development, policy and deployment, can directly affect children's privacy, safety, autonomy, and access to opportunities.
This resource helps you understand those impacts from a child’s perspective and empowers you to act responsibly and ethically, covering:
An introduction to the UNCRC & children’s human rights
Guidance on how to take a children’s rights approach to AI technologies
