AI Can’t Write Symphonies and Neither Can You: the report
AI Can’t Write Symphonies and Neither Can You (AICWSaNCY) was an interactive art exhibition from the Scottish AI Alliance which took place in June 2025. We explored the intersection of AI and creativity through a variety of media - from talks to performances to installations and everything in between. We worked with creative practitioners to explore the nature of human creativity through the lens of AI and engaging with the public to find out how they feel about AI and its influence on the arts.
The report of this event is now available to read here. The report explores the role of AI in the creative industries, the attendee and participant feedback on the event, and our findings from running a very different kind of event for us in a very contentious area of discourse.
This project was funded entirely by Creative Informatics, AHRC grant number AH/S002782/1 as part of the Creative AI Demonstrator project, co-funded by the AHRC and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). The Scottish AI Alliance was delighted to have the opportunity to continue the work and conversations Creative Informatics began. A large part of our remit as the Scottish AI Alliance is to engage with the people of Scotland and help them feel more confident about the role AI plays in their life - whether they choose to utilise the technology or otherwise. This is as true in the arts as it is in any other walk of life, making events like this particularly important.
