As AI reshapes workplaces across Scotland and the UK, a critical question emerges: whose interests will drive this transformation? While predictions about AI's impact vary widely - from mass job displacement to marginal productivity gains - one thing is clear: the future isn't inevitable, it must be actively built.

The TUC's report sets out five essential building blocks for ensuring AI benefits workers and society:

• Public Value in Public Services – What lessons can Scottish public bodies learn about embedding worker voice in procurement and avoiding Big Tech vendor lock-in?

• Pro-Worker Regulation – What rights and protections do workers need as AI enters the workplace, from impact assessments to data rights?

• Supporting Workers Through Change – How can skills policy, taxation and social security help workers navigate AI-driven transitions?

Drawing on international examples - from the US National Science Foundation's partnership with unions to the EU banking sector's AI agreement - and evidence showing that worker involvement improves both trust and implementation effectiveness, this session will offer valuable insights for Scottish organizations building our AI ecosystem.
